Template for the Grad Cap & Diploma Cookies
To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template of all the designs of this year's graduation cookie collection, including these cookie designs.
Click the link below for the downloadable template PDF file.
This file is rather large in data size. Just a warning, it might take a moment before the file opens in your browser.
If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.
The Cookie Decorating Process
For these graduation owl cookies, you will probably match your cookies with the school colors of your event. However, if you're wondering what colors I used, I listed them below:
- Blue royal icing (I mixed Americolor Royal Blue with a touch of Americolor Super Black.)
- Yellow icing (I used Americolor Egg Yellow.)
- Brown icing (I mixed Americolor Chocolate Brown with a touch of Americolor Super Black.)
- White icing (I used Americolor Bright White.)
- Orange icing (I used Americolor Orange.)
Step 1
For the head cookie, begin by filling in the top of the grad cap in blue icing and the head section in brown icing. Let this icing set for about an hour.
Then add the middle of the grad cap, the lower beak, and the lower part of the tassel, as shown. For the eyes, I did a wet-on-wet technique. You can see my exact method for these eyes in the video at the end of the post.
Step 2
Finish by adding the top ball of the tassel and the upper portion of the beak.
Step 3
For the body, begin by filling in the shirt section, as shown. Let this icing set for about an hour.
Then add the brown hand and the yellow sash/ hood.
Step 4
For personalization, I added a name using a projector.

If you prefer a single cookie design instead of the 2-piece option above, we have this single grad owl cookie cutter as well.
This is the LARGE size owl and I paired it with a top view grad cap cookie.
