Template for the We Wish You a Merry Christmas Tree Cookie Set
To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template available for this season's Christmas collection, including this Christmas Tree cookie set.
You can download these cookie templates HERE.
If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.
The Cookie Decorating Process
To decorate these Christmas tree cookies, you will need the following suggested colors:
- Green royal icing (I mixed Americolor Leaf Green with Lemon Yellow and a touch of Americolor Chocolate Brown.)
- Red piping icing (I mixed Americolor Tulip Red with some of the green from above).
- Gold icing (I used Americolor Gold with some of the green from above).
- White icing (I used Americolor Bright White.)
- Airbrush Color: Amerimist Laurel mixed with Gold
Step 1
Begin by outlining and flooding all the tree pieces (minus the star area and the bottom base area) with green icing. Let this icing set for four hours.
After the cookies had ample time to dry, it's time to add gingham stripes.
Using this wide stripes stencil, I airbrushed a light layer of green airbrush color. (This is Laurel mixed with Gold from Amerimist.)
After that airbrush had time to set, turn the stencil 90 degrees and add another light layer of stripes, as shown.
Step 2
Next, fill in the star area with gold icing and the bottom base section with red icing. Let this icing dry for another 4 hours.
Step 3
With very stiff white icing, stencil on the phrase "We wish you a ... Merry Christmas" onto both cookie pieces. The video below better illustrates how I did this.
Step 4
I thought the tree section needed a little more color, so I piped over the white dots with red icing. It gives the appearance of red ornaments on the tree.

Below is the completed set of the top and bottom Christmas tree cookies.
I made these cookies using my gingerdoodle cut-out cookie recipe. It's delicious and was the perfect compliment to this cookie design. It also makes your kitchen smell like Christmas.
