Decorate a Gingerbread House Cookie Set for Christmas
The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to embrace the festive spirit than by indulging in a classic Christmas tradition – decorating a gingerbread house!
If the idea of creating an elaborate gingerbread house feels a bit overwhelming, I got you. I designed this cookie set for simplicity without compromising the magic. By incorporating minimal designs and just a handful of colors, I kept things easy, making this a perfect project for both seasoned bakers and those with a time crunch during the holidays.
Gingerbread House Cookie Cutter Set
This gingerbread house cookie cutter set includes two cookie cutters: one front house cutter, and one side house cutter. (Flip one side cookie over to make the opposite side.)
When assembled, this gingerbread house set would fit nicely in this BRP cookie box (7" x 4 3/8" x 1.25").
Template for the Gingerbread House Cookie Set
To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template of all the designs of this year's Christmas cookie collection, including this gingerbread house cookie set design.

This file is rather large in data size. Just a warning, it might take a moment before the file opens in your browser.
If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.
The Cookie Decorating Process
To decorate these gingerbread house cookies, you will need the following suggested colors:
- Light Brown Color royal icing (I mixed Americolor Orange, Americolor Electric Green, with a touch of Americolor Chocolate Brown.)
- Dark Brown icing (I mixed the same colors as above but with more concentration.)
- Pink icing (I used Rainbow Dust Pink with a little of the light brown mixed in.)
- White icing (I used Americolor Bright White.)
Step 1
For the front of the house cookie, begin by filling the door area with pink icing and the round window with dark brown icing. Let that icing crust over.
Then fill in the remaining wall area with light brown icing. Let this icing dry for about 30 minutes.
Step 2
Next, add the snowy drip detail on the roofline and over the door, as shown.
Then add the pink outlines on the window and door. Add the white dot details.
Step 3
For the side of the house cookie, begin by filling in the window area with dark brown icing and the roof with pink icing. Let that icing set.
Then fill in the wall area with light brown icing. Let this icing dry for at least 30 minutes.
Step 4
Next, add the snowy drip detail on the bottom roofline and over the window, as shown. Also, add the white sections of the peppermint.
Then add the pink details of the window and the white scallop swirls for the roof shingles.
Gingerbread House Cookie Set Video Tutorial
The decorating steps above are summarized in this time-lapsed video below.
Here are all the pieces of the gingerbread cookie house all assembled together.
Just a reminder, to create the right side of the house, cut out the shape with the cookie cutter then flip it over on the baking sheet. Bake all three pieces and then they are ready to decorate.
When assembled, this gingerbread house set would fit nicely in this BRP cookie box (7" x 4 3/8" x 1.25").
Christmas is my most favorite time of the year for cookie decorating and we have a wide variety of Christmas cookie cutters that reflect that.
