Fruit Platter Cookie Cutters
This watermelon pineapple fruit cookie platter set includes a watermelon cookie cutter, a pineapple cookie cutter, and a center circle cutter. You can purchase cookie cutters together as a set, or as a pair of cutters without the center circle.
(This is the same circle cutter used in all my platter sets, like this Bee Hive set, unicorn platter, and Floral Wreath, etc.)
There are two sizes available. When arranged as a platter, as shown in the example picture, the platter measures:
LARGE- 12 inches in diameter.
SMALL- 9 inches in diameter.
For this tutorial, I'll be decorating the large size.
Template for the Fruit Platter Cookie Set
To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template of all the designs of this year's new cookie platter collection, including this fruit cookie platter set design.
Click the link below for the downloadable template PDF file.
This file is rather large in data size. Just a warning, it might take a moment before the file opens in your browser.
If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.
The Cookie Decorating Process
To decorate these melon and pineapple cookies, you will need the following suggested colors:
- Pink royal icing (I mixed Wilton Rose with Americolor Tulip Red.)
- Green icing (I mixed two parts Americolor Egg Yellow with one part Mint Green.)
- Light Green icing (I mixed the green icing above with a little more fresh icing.)
- Yellow icing (I useed Americolor Egg Yellow.)
- Dark Yellow icing (I mixed the yellow above with Warm Brown.)
- White icing (I used Americolor Bright White.)
- Black icing (I used Americolor Super Black.)
Step 1
For the watermelon cookie, begin by first filling in the top melon section with pink icing. Immediately add the two light pink cheek oval details.
Then add the bottom green sections. I added the dark green band first, then filled in the middle with light green.
Step 2
After the base layer had time to dry, add the black eye and seed details.
Then draw on a smile with a black food pen.
Step 3
For the pineapple cookie, begin by flooding the bottom section with yellow icing. Immediately add the dark yellow lines and pink cheek details.
After that had time to set, fill in the remaining top section with green icing.
Step 4
After the green icing had time to set, add the right leaf, as shown.
Then add the left leaf and the two back eyes.
Step 5
Then draw on a smile with a black food pen.
Step 6
For the center circle cookie, flood the entire cookie with white icing. Let this icing dry complete overnight.
To add the message, I used the Hello Summer cookie stencil in our shop. I swiped stiff green icing over it to apply the message design.
Fruit Cookie Platter Video Tutorial
The steps above are summarized in the time-lapsed video below.
Here is the completed summer fruit cookie platter all assembled. To create this entire platter required 11 cookies-- 5 watermelon cookies, 5 pineapple cookies, and 1 center circle cookie.
This is the large, 12" version. For the tray it's on, I like to use the 12" pizza pans from Dollar Tree. They are cheap and sturdy for transporting around.
Your watermelon and pineapple cookies will be a bright and tasty addition to any summer event. We hope this tutorial has sparked your creativity and made cookie decorating even more fun.
