Template for the Dino Book Cookie Set
To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template of all of the new Back-to-school cookie cutters, including this dinosaur book design.
You can download all the 2021 Back-to-School cookie templates HERE.
If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.
- Blue royal icing (I mixed Americolor Teal with Americolor Super Black.)
- Dark Blue icing (I mixed the blue icing above with more black coloring.)
- Yellow icing (I mixed Americolor Egg Yellow with a touch of Americolor Warm Brown.)
- Black piping icing (I used Americolor Super Black.)
- Burnt Orange icing (I mixed Americolor Orange with Warm Brown.)
- Green icing (I mixed equal parts Americolor Egg Yellow and Americolor Mint.)
- Dark Green icing (I mixed the green icing above with more black coloring.)
Step 1
For the brontosaurus cookie, fill in the body section with blue icing. Then quickly add the dark blue dots. Fill in the page area of the top book. Let this icing set.
Next, fill in the cover of the top book and fill in the page area of lower book.
Step 2
Next, fill in lower book cover area.
Then add the outlines to the body and the books.
Step 3
For the book cookie, begin by filling in the top page section with white icing. Let that icing set.
Next, fill in the cover sections with yellow icing.
Step 4
Next, add the remaining spine section with burnt orange icing. Let this icing dry completely.
Step 4
For the lettering, I made sure the base layer of icing dried completely.
In the shop is a new Have a Dino Mite year! stencil you can use for the lettering. Just swipe thick white royal icing over it to apply it to the cookie. The video below better illustrates how I did this.
Step 5
Complete the book by adding outlines to the cover and spine, as shown.
