How to Make a Nerdy Cactus Cookie Set
For Teachers Appreciation this year, we designed something for the plant lovers out there.
This Nerdy Cactus cookie set may look complicated due to its multiple parts, but trust me, it's one of the easiest to complete. I'll show you how down below.
Nerdy Cactus Cookie Cutters
This nerdy cactus cookie design is available in two variations: a 3-piece set, or as a single-piece design.
We will be decorating the 3-piece set option for this tutorial, but the same steps apply to the single option as well.
Templates for the Nerdy Cactus Cookie Set
To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template available for all the new teacher appreciation cookie cutter designs, including this nerdy cactus cutter.
You can download these cookie templates HERE.
If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.
The Decorating Process
For the colors used for these nerdy cactus cookies, you will need the following suggested colors:
- Green royal icing (I mixed Americolor Laurel with Americolor Taupe.)
- Light Blue royal icing (I mixed Americolor Wedgewood with a touch of Americolor Taupe.)
- Light Pink icing (I used Wilton Pink with a touch of Americolor Taupe.)
- White icing (I used Americolor Bright White.)
- Black icing (I used Americolor Super Black.)
Step 1
For the middle face cookie, begin by swiping a thin layer of black icing over where the mouth area is located.
Then fill in the surrounding area with green icing, as shown. Let this icing dry.
Step 2
Next, add the eye glass frames detail with black icing.
Then finish the cookie by adding the pink tongue, the eyelashes, and the white spines.
Step 3
For the top piece, fill in every other section first. Let those sections set, and continue filling non-adjacent sections until all sections are filled.
Step 4
Finish this cookie off by adding the white v-shaped spines.
Step 5
For the final pot cookie, flood the entire cookie in light blue icing. Let this icing dry.
Then add another layer of blue icing for the top rim, and add the white line details.
Nerdy Cactus Cookie Set Video Tutorial
The steps above are summarized in the time-lapsed video below.
Here are the finished cookies all pieced together. The complete sets fits perfectly in these 7″x4.25″ gift boxes.
To add a nice, finishing touch to these nerdy cactus cookies, we created a coordinating printable tag for a cute presentation any teacher would love.
"Your Teaching is On Point!" Everyone loves a pun, right?
We hope you're pleased with the outcome of this cookie cutter design project, even if it is a bit nerdy. We had a great time making the cookies and this post, it was fun from beginning until the end, and they were delicious!
