Years ago, before I started making cookie cutters, I made this vintage car and gas pump set for Father's Day. I'm a sucker for anything vintage and I wanted to recreate something similar this year.

Instead of Model-T cars in that previous set, I opted for a design that's a little more mid-century modern. This 50s-inspired vintage car and retro motel sign plaque set is what I came up with.

Based on a simplified '57 Chevy Bel-Air classic, I wanted this car cookie to be easier to decorate than the Model-T car cookies I made back in the day. It uses just a few colors yet leaves a lasting impression Dads are sure to love.

Vintage Car & Sign Cookie Cutters

Just added to the shop for the upcoming Father's Day season is this vintage car cookie cutter. It pairs with this retro motel plaque cookie cutter.

The cookie cutters are available in Regular and Large sizes. However, for this tutorial, I'll be decorating the LARGE size.

For reference, you can see both sizes at the end of this tutorial.

Templates for the Vintage Car Cookies

To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template available for vintage car and motel sign cookie designs as a guideline.

You can download these cookie templates HERE.

If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.

The Decorating Process

For the colors used for these vintage car cookies, you will need the following suggested colors:

Step 1

Begin by first filling in the window with light blue icing. Then fill in the car body with turquoise icing, as shown. Let this icing set.

Then move on to adding the white details like the hood, the side detail, and the center wheel hubcaps.

Step 2

Next, fill in the black tires around the white hubcaps.

Lastly, add the fine details like the bumpers, the center wheel detail, and the car outlines.
