Out of all the new Easter designs, I saved what I think is the most challenging cookie to decorate for last.

These Peter Rabbit inspired cookies do require a few more detailed steps to complete, compared to the previous cottontail bunny and chick in egg designs. However, by breaking down the steps below, I hope I can remove some of the intimidation to give these rabbits a try.

Rabbit Boy and Girl Cookie Cutters

Now in the shop, there are two Peter Rabbit inspired cookies-- a boy version and a girl companion.

These rabbit cookie cutters are available in two sizes-- Large and Regular-- depending on the gift box packaging you might prefer. I go into detail about the boxes I used for packaging at the end of this post.

For this tutorial, I'll be decorating the Large-sized Boy version. However, the steps to decorate the girl rabbit are very similar and can be applied as well.

Template for the Peter Rabbit Inspired Cookies

To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template of all the designs of my 2018 Easter cookie collection, including this Peter Rabbit cookie design.

You can download the new 2018 Easter cookie templates HERE.

If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.

The Decorating Process

For the exact colors I used and how I mixed them, check out this post on a bright and cheery Easter color palette.

Step 1

For those without a projector, begin by making a guideline for where the head and coat sections should be. I made a template with template plastic from the PDF file above and used a food marker to draw the guideline on the cookie.

Step 2

When you're ready to ice the cookie, begin by filling in alternating, non-adjacent sections that aren't touching. This will give the cookie nice dimension when it is dry.

I begin with the head, belly, and hand sections.

Wait about 15 minutes for the icing to set, then add the white chest, coat sleeves, and ear sections.

Step 3

Next, when the base layer had time to set, add the mouth area, eyes, and ear details. Let this icing set for another 15 minutes.

Then add the shirt collar and coat outline (I used a #1.5 PME tip), the nose, and toe details. For the toes, I just drew in the lines using a food marker.

These Peter Rabbit inspired cookies do take a lot of small steps to complete. I highly recommend drying your wet cookies in front of a heated fan (low setting) or in a dehydrator to speed up the decorating process in between steps.

Video Tutorial

The steps above are summarized in this time-lapsed video I put together.

For sizing, I wanted to play around with more gift box options. Below, you can see the REGULAR size cookies will fit in the usual 7″ x 4.25″ gift box from BRP.

For a slightly larger box with a non-border, clear lid, I tried out these “7 3/8″ x 5 1/2” boxes from Paper Mart. These rabbit cookies were the LARGE size.

To help fill the extra space between the rabbit cookies above, I made a carrot heart cookie option. As its name states, it’s two carrots crossed to create a general heart shaped cookie.

I used the SMALL size in the BRP box, and the REGULAR size in the Paper Mart box.

I hope everyone is ready for spring, because I sure am! These Peter Rabbit inspired cookies will definitely help ring in the spring season.
