Decorating a Christmas Pine Wreath Cookie Platter with Royal Icing
Nov 13, 2023
Chocolate chip is, by far, my favorite kind of cookie and I was excited to find a recipe for a delicious, roll-out version. (By the way, for those new to cookie-baking, when I mention a “roll-out recipe” I’m talking about a cookie recipe that is great for decorating because it (a) easily rolls out flat when using a rolling pin and remains flat after baking, and (b) keeps its cutout shape well after baking, too. On the contrary, a “drop cookie” recipe is what I would consider the opposite. That’s when you bake spoonful-sized balls of dough and the resulting cookie is kind of puffy and round after baking. Just FYI.)

I’ll be upfront and say that, even though I use this recipe a lot, I’m not a big fan of sugar cookies. I don’t hate them. I just think they taste, well… plain. I have tried many recipes out there. Most of them have pretty much the same ingredients: flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and vanilla extract. Just throwing in a small amount to the batch adds a creamy flavor but still makes for a sturdy cookie.

I think the addition of sprinkles helps add that special something to these smiling ghosts, as well. Here’s a quick tutorial on how you can recreate these trick-or-treating ghost cookies for the upcoming Halloween season.
Read MoreI’ve always been a fan of making zombie cookies. Zombies were one of my earliest cookies I ever made, and I’ve been making different zombie cookie versions with each passing year. This year was no different. Although I’m a zombie fan, I’m not big with gore. So I wanted these zombie cookies to reflect that. I came up with this zombie cookie set that wasn’t too frightening, yet still represented the zombie essence people know and love. (You know, the “I’m undead and I will eat your flesh if you don’t run” kind of essence.) Here’s a quick tutorial on how to make these zombie cookies.

I’m not ashamed to admit I’m often seen (but not heard) jamming to Christmas classics in my car during the hottest of summers. It just brightens my mood.
