How to Make Decorated S'more Cookies
As a follow-up to my previous recipe post, I wanted to share with you the tutorial for the decorated s'more cookies.
These gooey, little guys are the perfect summer treat. Also, I think they'd fit right in if they were part of a camping themed set, as well. What I love most about these decorated s'more cookies is they are fairly simple to decorate while not requiring a lot of colors. With white being the main color, it saved me a lot of time and effort during of the initial prep work stage.
S'more Cookie Cutter
Added to the shop this week is this s'more cookie cutter design.
Because of the square-like shape (it's almost as tall as it is wide), this cutter runs a bit larger in size than you might think. Be cautious when ordering if you'd like to give this guy a try.
The cookies in the example images of this post are a size REGULAR.
S'more Cookie Template
To help with the decorating process, I provided a downloadable template for the decorated s'more cookie design in this tutorial.
You can download the s'more cookies template HERE.
If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by cutting out the template and tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.
The Decorating Process
To decorate these decorated s'more cookies, you will need the following suggested colors:
- Graham Cracker colored piping and flood icing (I used this tan color combo from Sweet Sugarbelle.)
- Chocolate Brown icing. (I mixed Americolor Chocolate Brown with Super Black.)
- White icing (I used Americolor Bright White.)
- Black icing (I used Americolor Super Black.)
Step 1
For those without a projector, begin by making guidelines for where the graham crackers and marshmallow body should be. I made a template with template plastic from the PDF file above and used a food marker to draw the guidelines on the cookie.
Step 2
Using the marker line as a guide, outline and then flood alternating sections. I began with the graham cracker sections on the top and bottom. I let those sections set up for about 10 minutes, then moved on to the middle marshmallow body section.
Let this icing set for about 1 hour before moving on.
Step 3
Next, outline and fill in the chocolate "hair" section with dark brown chocolate icing.
Lastly, add the face and outline details on the crackers and around the marshmallow head. I used a #1.5 PME tip for the outlines and a #1 PME tip for the face.
Pretty easy, right?
Video Tutorial
The steps above are demonstrated in the time-lapsed video below.
There you have it! The finished s'more cookies.
Summer is usually a slower, less hectic time for me when it comes to cookies. It's also a time when I like to explore more random design themes. If there is a theme or design idea you'd like me to tackle let me know! I'll try to accommodate any request.
