Acorn & Leaves Platter Cookie Cutters
This Acorn & Leaves Cookie Platter Set includes two different sized acorn leaf cookie cutters, and a center circle cutter. You can purchase cookie cutters together as a set, or as a pair of cutters without the center circle.
(This is the same circle cutter used in all my platter sets, like this Bee Hive set, unicorn platter, and Floral Wreath, etc.)
There are two sizes available. When arranged as a platter, as shown in the example picture, the platter measures:
LARGE- 12 inches in diameter.
SMALL- 9 inches in diameter.
For this tutorial, I'll be decorating the large size.
Template for the Acorn & Leaves Platter Cookie Set
To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template of all the designs of this year's new cookie platter collection, including this fall cookie platter set design.
Click the link below for the downloadable template PDF file.
This file is rather large in data size. Just a warning, it might take a moment before the file opens in your browser.
If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.
The Decorating Process
For the colors used for this acorn and leaves cookie platter, you will need the following suggested colors:
- Light Gold royal icing (I mixed Americolor Gold with a touch of Warm Brown.)
- Darker Gold icing (I added more Americolor Gold and Warm Brown than above.)
- Burnt Red icing (I mixed Americolor Tulip Red with Americolor Warm Brown and Americolor Egg Yellow.)
- Darker Burnt Red icing (I added more coloring above.)
- Light Brown icing (I mixed Americolor Warm Brown with a touch of Americolor Electric Green.)
- Dark Brown icing (I mixed Americolor Chocolate Brown and Americolor Super Black.)
Step 1
For the leaf cookies, start by filling in the leaf section. You can use a single color for this step, but I decided to do two similar shades of a color per leaf for added dimension.
Step 2
Next, fill in the remaining acorn area with light brown icing.
Step 3
Once the base layer had time to crust over, add the dark brown tops to the acorn. Then add the line stem details on the leaves.
Step 4
For the final, center message cookie, begin by flooding the entire cookie with light brown icing. Let this icing dry completely.
Then I used the Hello Fall stencil with super thick white icing. I used a Stencil Genie to hold the stencil in place while I swiped icing over the design.
Acorn & Leaves Cookie Platter Video Tutorial
The steps above are summarized in this time-lapsed video I put together below.
Here's the final autumn cookie platter all assembled. To create this entire platter required 11 cookies-- 5 larger leaf cookies, 5 smaller leaf cookies, and 1 center circle cookie.
This is the large, 12" version. For the tray it's on, I like to use the 12" pizza pans from Dollar Tree. They are cheap and sturdy for transporting around.
If you're new to cookie decorating, I highly recommend giving this the cookie platter a try. The acorn and leaf design is very beginner-friendly, and the stencil for the center cookie makes added the words super easy.
We hope you enjoyed creating this acorns and leaves cookie platter and are feeling inspired for the fall season. These charming cookies are sure to impress at any autumn gathering, adding a touch of seasonal flair to your table.
