I'm so pleased and thankful that you guys love this gingerbread man design from a couple of seasons ago. Looking back at the sales from the past two Christmas seasons, he's still my number one seller for each of those years!

Since you all were such fans, I thought it would be fun to expand on the gingerbread theme. Instead of focusing on a single gingerbread man design, this time around I came up with a set that also includes a female companion and a gingerbread house. I also went with a peppermint theme to tie in with this new gingerbread theme.

For this tutorial, I wanted to focus on how to recreate the gingerbread house cookies. You can find past tutorials on how to decorate gingerbread man cookies at the end of the post.

Gingerbread Cookie Cutters

I've added eight new Christmas designs to my shop. In that collection, you can find a gingerbread candy boy and candy girl, as well as the coordinating gingerbread house now available for purchase!

As mentioned above, I'll be focusing on decorating the gingerbread house design.

Template for the Gingerbread House Cookies

To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template of all the new Christmas designs, including the gingerbread house cookies.

You can download the new 2018 Christmas cookie templates HERE.

If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.

The Decorating Process

These gingerbread house cookies require only a few steps to complete. However, the design itself is a little intricate. I’ll show you below how to decorate these cookies using a template, but I highly recommend using a projector if you have it. It will save you a lot of time.

To decorate these gingerbread house cookies, you will need the following suggested colors:

Step 1

For those without a projector, mark the guidelines where the house detail sections should be, as shown. I made a template with template plastic from the PDF file above and used a food marker to draw the guideline on the cookie.

Step 2

Begin by outlining and then filling the middle "gingerbread" section of the house. Then immediately add the darker accent dots. (Give the cookie a good shake to flatten the icing surface.)

Next fill in the door, window, and red stripe sections, as shown. Let the icing set and crust over for about 15 minutes.

Step 3

Once the icing had time to set up, add the white snowy roof, the side gumdrop accents, and the white stripes of the candy canes. (Don't forget to add the white stripes for the window sill too.) Let this icing set up for another 20 minutes.

Add the snowy tops to the window, the door, and the gum drops.

Then lastly, finish up by adding the red door frame, the window frame and striped sill, and the yellow door knob.
