Bohemian (or "boho" for short) and Pow Wow party themes have been on the rise lately. I can totally understand the appeal. It's an easy theme to throw together to transform a party into boho chic. Just mix a few tribal elements with brightly colors and floral accents and you got yourself a party that any free spirit would love!

For my next round of cookie cutters, I wanted to offer a few shapes that could help with your next bohemian themed event, as well as showcase a few ideas for boho chic cookies to inspire you.

Boho Chic Cookie Cutters

Just posted to the shop are 4 new types of cookie cutters.

Teepee Cookie Cutter

This teepee cookie cutter has a rounded bottom edge and a thickened section near the top. This is to help reenforce the area where the wooden beams connect.

Dreamcatcher Cookie Cutter

A beautiful symbol of Native American culture, this dreamcatcher cookie cutter is a dream. :) The circle top is large enough (2.25 inches in diameter) to pipe the intricate weave detail. It also has room at the bottom to add 4 feathers to your liking.

Cow Skull Cookie Cutter

I know a cow's skull isn't this exact shape. However, for decorated cookies, this "stubbier" version is ideal.  I widened the face, as well as thickened the horns, to help make the overall cookie be more stable and prevent it from breaking while handling.

Arrow Cookie Cutters

There are two types of arrow cookie cutters in the shop: regular and slim. The shape is kept pretty general so it leaves you room for your own design interpretations.

Template for Boho Chic Cookies

I provided a downloadable template for the design ideas shown below. Feel free to use these design or use them as inspiration to create your own.

You can download the boho cookies template HERE.

If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by cutting out the template and tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.

The Dreamcatcher, cow skull, and teepee designs I came up with are shown above. The cow skull is a little macabre, so I tried to soften the facial features to help make it less morbid and more... whimsy?

boho chic arrow cookies

The font for the word "brave" I used for the arrows started off as Safina. I did alter it a bit by making some of the letters longer to help fill the space. This modified script is also included in the template I provided.

Lastly, here are the boho chic cookies all together. I also threw in a few feathers that I debuted before the Christmas break.

Decorating Notes

While I had a lot of fun decorating these boho chic cookies, there were two notes I'd like to share that made decorating these cookies a little easier.

Rainbow Dust Progel- Navy

Rainbow Dust Progel in Navy

In my past experiences of mixing icing, one color that always gave me a hard time was the color navy. I would make it either too blue or too black, running the risk of using too much coloring gel in my icing. Well, Rainbow Dust brand navy really saved the day. I love all the colors from Rainbow dust, but this navy color is one of my favorites on that list. If you'd like to try it for yourself, it's available on Amazon.

Imperial Gold with Everclear

When applying luster dust to cookies, my cookie friends have been telling me that using Everclear is the way to go. And they are so right! Everclear has such a high alcohol content that it evaporates super quickly. This is key because it doesn't melt or pit the royal icing as you apply it to the cookie.

To apply it to a cookie, I mix just a quarter teaspoon of Imperial Gold luster dust (sometimes called "highlighter") with 3 drops of Everclear. The consistency should be sludgy, not soupy. If it's too thin, don't worry. It will evaporate and become thicker if you give it a few seconds. Use a food-only paintbrush to mix the imperial gold and apply it to a dry cookie.

Not every state is permitted to sell Everclear in their liquor stores, but if yours does I would recommend picking up a bottle. You might get a few judgemental looks for buying such a strong liquor, but believe me, it's worth the awkward stares. :)
