One of my all time favorite TV shows, Breaking Bad, begins airing its final eight episodes this Sunday. (single tear :-\)
If you’re like me, and are planning to have friends over for a viewing party, I have a super simple cupcake idea to share that any Breaking Bad fan would appreciate. All you need are some basic cupcake ingredients and some sprinkles. I’ll provide the rest!
The idea behind these Breaking Bad cupcakes relies on the story plot of the Los Pollos Hermanos’ fry batter. Fans of the show would know Walt White’s blue meth was submerged in tubs of fry batter for concealment during shipping. If you haven’t seen the show (you’re totally missing out BTW), the clip below shows what I’m mean.
Pretty Neat, huh?
Making Breaking Bad Cupcakes
You would need these 3 components to make these cupcakes:
One box of white cake mix, plus the ingredients it calls for (eggs, oil, water, etc.)
One container of white frosting
Blue sugar gem sprinkles
I happened to find the blue gem sprinkles in the cake decorating aisle of the grocery store. If your grocery store doesn’t carry them, you would have better luck finding these sprinkles in the baking section of any craft store, like Michaels or Jo-Ann Fabrics.
Assemble the batter buckets
Preparing the Cupcakes
Begin by baking the cupcakes as directed in cupcake liners of your choice. After the cupcakes had plenty of time to cool, cut a small cone shape from the top of each cupcake, then fill the holes with blue gem sprinkles. Set them aside.
Constructing the Cupcake Liners
This next part is what brings the novelty of these treats to life. I created a free printable cupcake wrapper resembling the tub design of the Breaking Bad LPH fry batter buckets.
You can download the printable Breaking Bad cupcake wrappers HERE.
Constructing these wrappers is simple. Print out the PDF file on cardstock, cut out the wrapper designs with scissors, then tape the ends together in the back with clear tape.
Frosting the Cupcakes
Drop each cupcake into these newly made wrappers FIRST before you start frosting. (Learn from my initial mistake; placing a frosted cupcake into wrapper is messy and a pain.)
To frost the cupcakes, scoop the canned frosting into a disposal piping bag with a Wilton 2A icing tip. I liked using this large, round tip for these cupcakes because the swirl it creates looks fatty and batter-like.
After the cupcakes are frosted, they are ready to serve. Once your guests tear into these treats, they will discover hidden blue “meth”, just like the show. Pretty easy, right? “Yeah, B!%#H!”
