A major news story broke early last week of geektastic proportions. It was refreshing because the story wasn’t at-all related to politics. (I don’t know about you but I have a serious case of election fatigue. I’m really looking forward to Wednesday when those political TV ads stop airing.) What was I saying? Ah, yes! Disney is buying Lucasfilm (you know, the ones responsible for Star Wars) and is planning to release three more movies in the series!
It turns out the plan is to release Episode VII in 2015. Hopefully, these next three movies can make up for that last three prequels. I’m not saying those prequels sucked (although, some online critics might). I mean, I’d watch any Star Wars movie if it randomly came on cable and would call that a good night. However, I can honestly say that those prequels were never up to par with the original trilogy.
Maybe Disney will work its own magic and put new life into this franchise again. Until then I’m celebrating the news with a mash-up of Disney and Star Wars character cookies.
This mash-up of characters isn’t new. Star Wars and Disney have been teaming up for years. In every Tomorrow Land, you can easily find kids lined up to be a part of the Jedi Training Academy. One of the team-up merchandise you see everywhere at the parks is Disney Star Wars pins. That’s where I got the designs for these cookies.
Here’s Mickey as a Jedi and Minnie as Princess Leia.
I forgot to add Minnie’s eyelashes. It’s a bummer too because it kind of looks like Mickey in drag. Who knew lashes would make a world of difference? (sorry, Minnie.)
Up next are Goofy as C-3PO and Stitch as Yoda.
Lastly, my favorite of the bunch, Donald as Darth Maul. Or “Duck Maul” as I like to call him. For the “Star Wars” cookie, I found a Disney font to use from FontSpace.com.
Well that sums up this batch. I know this post may have seemed a bit random especially this time of year. Maybe you were expecting this post to be Fall or Thanksgiving related? Don’t you worry, I have a few Fall-y ideas coming up that I can’t wait to share.
